Threadwood Interview : Voyage LA

Recently we were interviewed for the Thought Provokers series at Voyage LA. Their interview approach is conversational and broad and tackles big picture thoughts on being a creative and the journey to get there. If you'd like to know more about how we met, developed our style together, and our general philosophies on making work and aiming for "success" - please click through.

They spotlight new creatives frequently and use word of mouth recommendations to expand their interviewing pool of entries - it keeps their creatives diverse and forever branching out. We were generously recommended by our good friends Max Lopez, Cami Kwan and Sean Maloney at Apartment D (click for their interview from a few weeks ago) and paid it forward to more talented multifaceted stop motion friends - fingers crossed to see their work highlighted soon!

One of our answers was how engaging clay animation is too look at despite how long it takes. It's truly an investment to have something unique to catch and hold someone's attention. We're grateful it seems they felt the same by their use of our work on their splash pages (see below).

We finally animated something with a set and props! Here’s our January Loop de Loop entry, “Flumpy” (title courtesy of cousin Michael) The theme this month was “window”. Unfortunately, we were too jet lagged to attend the LA screening last night, but all the entries are really great and they’re posted on their website. We posted some juicy BTS stuff on our Instagram acct! ?SOUND ON!

Our (extremely) short film Spider vs. the Living Dead won Best Horror Comedy at the LAAF Film Festival!

Even though we just got back from our holiday visit to the East Coast, we needed to go and celebrate our win ** Please pardon our sleepy smiles, jet lag and day long travel are mean beasties.
We had a good time having a drink and applauding the other winners! It  was a very unique and relaxed event.

Bonus - We even made it into their trailer! Check it out below :
(Our appearance is at 00:14)

We're thrilled to have had our short "Spider vs. the Living Dead" selected to be a part of the Cardiff Animation Festival this weekend. Wish we could've been there!

Our good friend Kaitlin happened to be in the UK and made it a point to go in our place - She said it was lovely and she met some great animation folks!

Happy Halloween!

One will catch you in it's web…
The other will stalk you until you’re dead...
Who will get the last bite in a battle between the world’s most terrifying, flesh-craving beasts!?

Created for Halloween '17. We used this short to exercise some new ideas about character design, clay puppet fabrication, lighting, sound design, and 2D effects techniques. My father, who is an old horror fan and master pinstriper/letterer, sketched the title design for us. "Spider vs. the Living Dead" was an official selection for the inaugural Cardiff Animation Festival.

11 Second Club (2015)

1/31/2015

Here is our entry for this month's 11 Second Club challenge. Our goal here was to try a new approach with some new materials on our clay character, Lynn. We use these small projects to discover new techniques and collect knowledge before we attempt a larger clay animation film. Clay animation is rare and there is still much that hasn't been explored. The audio is from the monthly character animation challenge website 11 Second Club via the movie Bridesmaid
